Keto is a lifestyle and it changes lives!
Keto is high fat, medium protein, and low carbohydrates. This specific combination of macronutrients forces your body to burn fat as fuel, rather than carbs. Why switch from carbs as fuel? How many of us know someone who struggles with their weight and is allergic to soy or intolerant of gluten, has leaky gut or suffers from brain fog and painful joints? We know that inflammation in our bodies creates the perfect conditions for the development of many undesirable diseases. Our starchy carbs promote inflammation, and year after year, the harmful impact to our body accumulates. Weight gain, exhaustion and then, before we know it, our health is compromised.
Like many, my family tree includes every dreaded disease in the book. Lots of cancer, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, strokes, alzheimer’s, scleroderma, bad hips, knees and on and on. So I spent my life making sure I ate properly and exercised daily. Others thought I was nuts but I knew it was important.
One day, out of the blue, I discovered a mass in my abdomen. I had two tumors. One the size of a grapefruit and the other the size of a sauté pan. I had surgery within a week. Then chemo, then the long process of rebuilding my brain and body. I participated in clinical trials for activity and nutrition designed to extend my life expectancy.
I am in remission and have celebrated my 5 years! I am immensely grateful to be alive and to my family, friends and professionals who saved my life and walked with me every step of the way.
During this same time, my friends became allergic to soy and gluten, developed lung cancer, heart problems, prostate, colon and skin cancer, one had a heart attack. There were bad hips, knees, ankles, weight gain and depression. A few didn’t make it.
So, what do we do now? We Keto!
We change our health by changing our daily diet! Cooking and eating can be fun and satisfying! We change what we control. We control the quality, type and amount of food we consume and feed to our family. Every day is another opportunity to make one change that will benefit all of us.
Eating makes me happy, I love good food! I want food that is healthy, flavorful, that promotes clarity and energy! We all do, right?
